Introducing Katie Billings and Sam Patzkowsky - new grad fellows in EPS

Katie and Sam join the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences as two of our newest McDonnell Center Graduate Fellows.

Katie joins us from Bryn Mawr College and will be working with Professor Phil Skemer.  We are pleased to announce that Katie is the inaugural recipient of the Larry A. Haskin Graduate Fellowship.  Katie shared, "I am excited to tackle interesting questions about the origins of plate tectonics and expand my skills as a scientist while working in the ESPM rock deformation lab.  I am grateful for the freedom the Larry A. Haskin Graduate Fellowship will provide as I pursue my graduate studies."

Sam received his undergraduate degree from Franklin & Marshall College and he plans to work with Professor Rita Parai.  When asked about his decision to do his graduate studies in St. Louis he said, "I chose WashU because of the research opportunities and the supportive community present within the department.  I believe that the science being conducted at WashU is truly the most exciting; I, simply, cannot wait to dive headfirst into it.  WashU's research experience is unmatched from any of the other schools I looked at and I know that this school and my graduate program will set me up properly for the remainder of my career."
