Saturday Science Lecture with Mike Ogilvie on Physics and Our Next 20 Years
Humans have found increasingly sophisticated ways to explore, understand and manipulate the world around us. From the discovery of planets around other stars to the use of virtual reality headsets, the pace of change is very fast, and affects every aspect of our lives. However, we are subject to fundamental limitations imposed by scientific laws. New research and innovative technologies coming in the next two decades are increasingly bumping into these limits. How fast, how far, how small can we go? Are there limits to artificial intelligence? To the production of energy? Most importantly, are we ready to be wise in our choices?
This lecture will be in person and on Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent via email to everyone on our email list before each lecture. Those wishing to join the email list should email a request to physics@wustl.edu.
