Physics Theory Seminar with Daniel Jiménez Aguilar on Dynamics of string-like defects: field theory versus Nambu-Goto
Daniel Jiménez Aguilar (Hosted by Ferrer) from Tufts University will be presenting a seminar “Dynamics of string-like defects: field theory versus Nambu-Goto”
In many field theories, solitonic solutions admit localized excitations with unnaturally long lifetimes in their spectrum of perturbations. These bound states may play a significant role in the dynamics of topological defects, and they could shed light on the discrepancies between field theory and Nambu-Goto simulations of cosmic string networks. In this talk I will discuss the influence of this type of excitations on the dynamics of string-like defects, and I will show explicit comparisons between the field theory and the Nambu-Goto evolution of these solitons.
