Joined MCSS in Fall 2015

Ryan Ogliore, PhD, joins the physics department as assistant professor. Ryan’s current research focuses on the origin of the solar system, the evolution of the surfaces of asteroids, and the astrophysical environment of the young solar system. He uses a variety of microanalytical techniques to analyze space-returned samples, meteorites, and interplanetary dust.  He received his doctorate from the California Institute of Technology in 2007 and most recently served as assistant researcher at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.  Ryan was inspired to study cosmochemistry, after starting his scientific career in astrophysics, by the fundamental questions the field addresses and the opportunities for creative, hands-on research using cutting edge instrumentation on the most interesting samples around. He is excited to be at Washington University, which has a vibrant research community and a storied history in the space sciences. Most early mornings, Ryan can be found running with his wife and two-year old son around Forest Park.
