Space Sciences/Astrophysics Seminar with Michela Negro on Gamma-Ray Background

The γ-ray sky has been revealed in the last decade by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT), offering an outstanding picture of our Universe at the highest energies. A great part of this γ-ray emission has been resolved, studied and attributed to known astrophysical objects and processes. The remaining component, the Unresolved Gamma-Ray Background (UGRB), represents the only available information about sources (astrophysical or more exotic, like dark matter) that are too faint to be detected individually. In this seminar I will present the main analysis techniques used to assess the origin of the UGRB through its statistical properties. I will review some of the most recent results, providing the status of the art and future perspectives on the topic.
