Kun Wang, who first came to St. Louis in 2009 as a PhD student and graduated in 2013, returned to Washington University this summer to join the faculty of Earth and Planetary Sciences. Kun grew up in the city of Tangshan in China, a city that was affected by a devastating earthquake which struck decades ago. He decided to study geology in college to understand our Earth. After his graduation from The China University of Geosciences, attracted by the excellent research program at Washington University, he came to St. Louis and spent four fruitful, happy years here to earn his doctorate degree. Kun moved to Harvard University shortly after graduation and served as the Origins of Life Initiative Postdoctoral Fellow for the past three years. He is very excited to return to Washington University to start his own laboratory to continue and expand his research in studying Earth, Moon, Mars and meteorites. Specifically, Kun applies non-traditional isotope tools to understand the origin and history of our solar system and planet formations. In his spare time, Kun enjoys the beautiful Forest Park near the campus for endless all-year round activities like races, concerts, festivals and arts.
